Item description

This is a super rare RHD Ford pickup with the highly sought after 100hp Mercury flathead V8 (which came as standard in these units). This vehicle, like many others in Darwin at the time, was used for military service in WWII. There are a number of these vehicles in Australia, but most are imported LHD vehicles. This vehicle was sourced from a cattle station about a dozen years ago and lovingly restored by an elderly gent in Darwin. He passed away a few years ago. I have a documented photo record of his restoration work, showing the bare chassis rebuild. The entire drivetrain has been rebuilt, as has the braking and cooling system. The wiring was also replaced. The body work is in excellent condition. The interior has been fully retrimmed with new upholstery, new headlining and floor matting. The vehicle then spent some time on display in a Ford dealership in Darwin. When I purchased the vehicle a year or two back, it was in good working order, but there were a number of details that needed attending to. I had the gearbox fully rebuilt after chasing down hundreds of dollars of NOS gears. The radiator and water pumps were removed, the radiator tanks removed and flushed, etc. All electrics work. The original fuel gauge isn’t functioning, but there is a separate gauge fitted under the dash. The pickup sounds fabulous with a nice throaty V8 burble through the twin system. This vehicle is in sparkling condition. However, it is not perfect. The paintwork was redone in about 2006. Although the vehicle is straight and rust-free (thanks to the NT climate), the paintwork is not show quality. You’ll be lucky to see another one of these again, particularly in such good original condition.
